Music Maker (Unreleased Cartridge) Bally Astrocade Cartridge Review This review is from the 1982 book "The Complete Guide to Conquering Video Games: How to Win Every Game in the Galaxy" by Jeff Rovin. The only losers in this "game" are those who appreciate great music. Music Maker allows ANYONE to compose a ditty or pick out their favorite tunes; in short, it gives every would-be Chopin center stage at the Karntnertor in Vienna. In organ-like tones the computer reproduces every note you program within a three-octave range. It also plays any number of three-note chords you happen to conceive, regardless of whether they are the height of harmony or the pits of cacophony. You can program several measures at a clip, the computer maintaining the correct tempo. For those less musically inclined, the computer will do the composing for you. In any case, you can control the pitch, vibrato, tempo, and volume. You can also use Music Maker to create science-fictional sound effects. Rating *** A unique and entertaining cartridge, Music Maker is most useful in teaching novices the basics of music. It stops short of allowing the creation or replay of a composition even remotely complex. END OF REVIEW
