Arcadian Program FAQ: Volumes 1-7 ---------------------------------- Version 1.0 December 15, 2010 The "Arcadian Program FAQ: Volumes 1-7," created and maintained by Adam Trionfo (ballyalley@hotmail.com). Table of Contents ----------------- 1) About this "Arcadian Program" FAQ 2) Number of Published Programs 3) The Programs 1) About this "Arcadian Program" FAQ --------------------------------- The "Arcadian" was a newsletter for the Bally Astrocade game console/computer. It was edited and published by Robert Fabris in San Jose, California from November 6, 1978 until August 15, 1986 (though there are a few one or two page "pre-Arcadian newsletters"). This FAQ lists all of the programs published as BASIC and machine language listings. It does NOT list all of the small programs that were sometimes listed as part of tutorials, as most of those programs do not stand alone without the tutorial. For instance, if a program was illustrating how a loop worked, then there might be a short example program. That sort of program is not included in this listing. However, sometimes tutorials did have programs that could stand on their own: those type of programs ARE listed here. This FAQ also lists reprinted programs (from later issues of the Arcadian, when the newsletter was running low on submissions) as separate programs. These programs are not only listed for completeness; they are listed because these reprinted programs sometimes, but not always, had subtle changes made to them. Robert Fabris has granted permission for the "Bally Alley" website to include the complete newsletter set at www.ballyalley.com. The complete seven volume archive is available for download; every program listed in this FAQ is available in the pages of the "Arcadian." You can download the Arcadian newsletters here: http://www.ballyalley.com/newsletters/arcadian/arcadian.html This FAQ lists only the initial program listing (and on rare occasions additions to the original listing). Sometimes there were errors in original listings (most often, these were typos). Page numbers for fixes are NOT included in this FAQ; they can be found in Mike White's "Tape Programs Listing and Database FAQ." If you plan to type one of these programs into the Astrocade, then check his FAQ for possible places to check for errors: http://www.ballyalley.com/faqs/Tape_Software.zip Finally, the Astrocade only had a few dozen cartridges released for it, but take a look at this FAQ and you'll see just how deep and rich the software base for the Astrocade console actually is. 2) Number of Published Programs ---------------------------- There were 329 programs published in the Arcadian. This information is summarized as follows: Volume 1 - 31 Volume 2 - 60 Volume 3 - 59 Volume 4 - 49 Volume 5 - 38 Volume 6 - 59 Volume 7 - 33 --- 329 Total Programs The individual programs are listed in section 3. 3) The Programs ------------ The main goal of this FAQ is to put straight all of the programs ever published in the "Arcadian" newsletter. The second goal is to list if the program has been archived. However, NO progress has been made on archival status of programs, so that column is left blank.
