"Maze Avenger" Unofficial Instructions October 25, 2011 By Paul Thacker ----------------------- So I figured I should play this game after all the trouble everyone went through archiving it. It is pretty frustrating, but I have a few tips. The game alternates between a hunting sequence and a chase sequence. During the hunting sequence, your character walks very slowly and can't go through walls, but is able to fire his weapon. The weapon fires in the direction you're walking and keeps going until it hits a wall or one of the garbled sprites. I'm not actually sure what the sprites are supposed to be ? maybe they're treasure you're shooting with your teleporter beam, maybe they're alien druglords that killed your family ? we may never know. You can't walk while it's firing, so don't fire frivolously. Here's a hint to speed up the hunt. If you're standing right next to a wall, you can shoot through it. I'm not sure if this is actually intentional, but it's certainly useful. You score a few points for each object you shoot, and you reach the next level once you've gotten them all, at which point you get a bonus score and the maze resets with more objects. But you didn't think you could get through this maze unavenged, did you? Periodically we switch to the chase sequence. Now your weapon is of no use, and you can only flee in terror before the flashing block of death. You're so frightened, in fact, that you move much more quickly and you can run right through those walls. Stay away for a few seconds and you'll survive. Otherwise it will take a shot at you and you'll be instantly killed if it hits. Of course, if the block appears right next to you, you're pretty much screwed. On the plus side, you can take advantage of this phase to position yourself closer to your quarry. I managed to reach level five and score 171 points. I'm going to assume this is a world record unless someone claims otherwise.
