Introducing Fun & Brains.
GQ magazine, November 1978, Page 67.

Thanks to Allen Schweitzer for buying this ad off Ebay and lending it to me in May of 2021. Somewhat surprisingly, it turns out that this Bally Arcade ad, which is new to me, is from the November 1978 issue of GQ magazine. I wonder if Bally placed Bally Arcade ads in other mainstream magazines.

This ad is touting the newly-released cartridge, Bally BASIC. I've scanned it and adjusted the yellowed colors in the ad. I also scanned the 2"x2" part of the ad that is the Bally Family so that I could include their happy faces here.
"Discover the Bally Promise of Endless Fun!" Catalog
Circa 1978/79

This four-page folded paper brochure/catalog/flyer measures about 7" x 3.5" and opens to approximately 14" x 7". This catalog features many screenshots, including four of them for two cartridges (four games) that were never released: "5003 - Checkers/Backgammon" and "3004 - Drag Race/Desert Fox." The catalog is a nice piece of vintage salesmanship. It uses some of the original naming conventions for Bally's cartridges: cassettes and videocades:

"15 cassettes and 30 games deliver excitement only Bally can offer! All Bally Videocade Programs are, and will continue to be, designed with the same advanced thinking as the Bally Professional Arcade itself.

"This Videocade library already offers all Bally Professional Arcade owners fascinating sports, strategy and educational games. Future Videocade Cassettes will expand the unit’s applications and usefulness in many fields. And with Bally BASIC, charts, graphs, music and a wide range of additional video games can be programmed. These new Videocade Cassettes will be available from us on a continuing basis."

Munchie Cartridge Ad "Munchie" (Ad for Unreleased Game).
By Astrocade, Inc.
1981.

This is an ad for "Munchie," a "Pac-Man" clone that wasn't released by Astrocade, Inc. for the Bally Arcade/Astrocade videogame console. This ad is from page 3 of the BPA catalog with 9 games. The game was eventually released by the Astrocade community as "Muncher."

"You are captive in a maze of crazy, creepy ghosts. It's a spooky situation, and you can do one of two things: munch or be munched! Score as many points as possible, gobbling up everything in your path-- including the ghosts with an appetite for YOU! Do your best to save your soul!"

This quote is from the "Bally/Astrocade Game Cartridge and Hardware FAQ:"

"Astrocade was forbidden to release this game by a court order (rumors claim that Astrocade spent a fortune in litigation with Atari, but to no avail!). The prototype, actually titled 'Pac Man,' turned up with Clyde Perkins and Phillip Harris in 1983. Phillip changed the title to Muncher, and sold two batch runs with a white label that reads, 'TEST PROGRAMME' (these were sold through the 'Arcadian' newsletter). Then another unknown source (Esoterica?) sold more 'Muncher' cartridges with a red label that says "DEMO".
